My future groom would surely be surprised to see me in wearing this wedding gown that he'd probably think twice on getting on with the matrimonial ceremony. This is a snapshot of one of the entries in the Bridal Fair held at the NCCC Mall last August as part of the Kadayawan Festival activities. I wouldn't even think of wearing this, don't you think it's too avant garde?

Kadayawan Festival

The weekend was fun-filled for us people of Davao and a real treat for tourists who visited the Davao City for the Kadayawan Festival. Last Weekend, several activities left and right sent people rushing to different event venues in the city. People from all walks and diverse interests have their share of interesting stuffs to watch out. There's the Horticulture Exhibit for those who love flowers particularly orchids and cultural exhibits at the Davao Museum. Those who are interested in travel also have the Mindanao Travel Expo at Davao Convention Center where they get the chance to discover great deals and learn more about great travel destinations in Mindanao. Girls swooned over hunky PMA cadets as they did their Silent Drill at the Agro Field last Saturday afternoon. But of course, the merriment would not be complete without celebrities whom people eagerly waited for. Gaisano Mall was a blockbuster last weekend as several GMA stars featuring their latest show Darna whom people was so excited about. Marian Rivera donned her Darna costume, enough to send men in the audience salivating.

The highlight for Kadayawan Festival is and has always been (I believe) the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dance ) and the Floral Float Parade. I wasn't able to catch the Indak-Indak but I was fortunate to have been able to get a glimpse of the Floral Float Parade. It was really hot but it was worth it. I saw Illac Diaz (not part of the celebrities doing mall shows but as a tourist) but other people doesn't seem to recognize him. He was taking pictures too and of course I was taking a picture of him. hehehe... too bad he walked too fast that my cam only caught the side view. I had a double treat that day. Hahaha..

Kadayawan Festival was a Success

I am kinda late for work now I am to make another post so I'll post photos later. Kadayawan was so fun. Everyone has interesting stories to tell. I can't do this post in a rush so I'll come back after work to tell you about it.

Has anyone heard about Red Chair Confessions? I came across this video and was very much intrigued by this that it sent me to OC mode again. I want to find out what she was talking about but by the sound of it, looks like she's up to something that is really naughty and hot. Plus the fact that she's the first among her friends to do it and her mom once she'll find out will definitely freak out. Doesn't that make you seem to suspect that she has indulged in something that good teenage girls should not do? Here's the video so that you'll share the same curiosity.

Speaking of Red Chair Confessions, I realized that it's been quite a long time since I had my last confession. I have been awfully remiss in my Christian duties for quite some time now and I am not happy about it. Just last night after I learned that I lost my other blog's page rank, I pondered whether God was punishing me because I have been prodigal or so that I will turn back to Him because there's no one I can turn to for help now that I'm in for a rough ride. Whoa! enough of being melodramatic too early in the morning, I think that's so shallow now.

Anyways, my guess is that this is going to be another hilarious movie. I tried checking out their website but there's not a bit of a hint except for the video. We still have to come for another week to find it out. Yes, it's definitely a movie, I know it.

Places to see before I die

It's a big world out there and a lot of places are waiting to be discovered. If only money is not an issue, I would have used up all the pages in my passport ( I still don't have one since I don't see the need for it until now so I am getting a passport this month, a round of applause please!). Going to different places and other parts of the world is one of the most worthwhile thing to do during one's existence in this planet.

I remember when I was younger, I used to wish I could go on an astral travel so I could go to different parts of the world or how I'd be happy when I'm dead because that means my soul will be free to roam around the world. I realized that was silly as I grew up, I realized somehow that it's best to experience other places while I am still alive because nothing compares to the feeling of being able to see it with one's eyes, taste foreign delicacies and walk on a strange land.

I already have a list of places in my mind that I wish to go to one day, I am not in a hurry though as I am trying to be realistic as I can be. I only plan to go to places which my circumstances will allow me to. But being the dreamer that I am, I yearn to set foot in Europe and see its beautiful architecture. I dream of being able to stay in one of the finest Hotels in Manchester which I knew nothing of except as the place of Ricky Hatton, Pacquiao's latest conquest. How I wish that I'd be able to see these places before I die.

The Miss Universe 2009 preliminary judging has already begun earlier today where the semi-finalists will be selected but will be announced on the Pageant night on August 23 at 9PM (August 24, 9AM Philippine Time) live from Paradise Island, Bahamas (this year's host country).

The Philippines' bet to the Miss Universe 2009 is a 22-year old Advertising graduate from Assumption College, Bianca Manalo. Go and check out Missuniverse.com and you will see that she's among the top 10 with the highest ratings but the final decision lies in the hands of the judges. I am quite optimistic that she'll make it. I envy this statuesque Filipina, I've always wished I were a lot taller but at 5'10", she's truly towering.

Photo Hunt#28: Artificial

The Kadayawan Festival will start tomorrow and everything's spruced up for the coming week's festivities. Last night, there was a Midnight Sale in all the three big malls here in Davao City. Sadly, I didn't have the moolah to indulge in a shopping spree. So everything I did with my sister was a great deal of window shopping. If ever we did shop, it was solely intended for mom. We stopped by the Coffee Bar at Gaisano Mall though to reward ourselves with our favorite Blueberry Cheesecake after several hours of walkathon.

Last night, there was a fashion show at Gaisano Mall called Moda Mindanaw as part of the Kadayawan Festivities. There was too much noise and people at the Atrium that my sister and I decided to just stay away from where the crowd was. Then my attention shifted to the artificial gigantic Durian, Rambutan and Lanzones that hangs above the Mall ceiling, without second thought, I am already taking snapshots of these amusing wonders. Here's a closer shot:

Davao City is blessed with so much of Nature's bounty as fruits and other harvests are in abundance in the area aside from the fact that it is typhoon-free. Hence, the Kadayawan Festival is celebrated annually as a thanksgiving for the blessings that the people have received.

Webhosting: A Unique Gift idea

I have never thought about it until Steffi offered me free web hosting for a new blog as a birthday gift. She has always been a constant reader of my blog and me of hers too, I guess that's what friends are for. It's actually our own way of keeping in touch with each other's lives now that we are continents apart. We don't usually talk or send each other emails but I believe that the bond remains. Steffi gave me the freehand in choosing the domain name for my new blog but three months later, I still haven't figured what name to use. I wanted it to have a unique name that will have a good recall to readers but I already have a good idea though on what niche the blog would cater to.

For a while, Steffi and I have been discussing over which web hosting provider to choose. This is where I saw the benefit of sites that show would-be users the comparative ratings of different web hosting service providers because it gives them an idea on which would suit them more in terms of their needs and the extent of service that they wish to avail.

My best friend really is so full of great ideas. This is why it's no longer a surprise to me that she has achieved everything that she has wanted. I am happy that she is now living her dreams. My only hope is that we will be able to meet each other again. I don't wish that she'll come home and visit the Philippines again, rather it is I who will be able to visit her because that would mean fulfilling two of my wishes. Hahaha! Traveling to another place outside Asia and seeing my Steffi after a long time. I bet we won't be running out of stories to tell.

Slow Connection, Procrastinators Let's Unite tomorrow

Internet connection is excruciatingly slow so instead of making another post today, I decided to put it off for tomorrow. It's only been one of those rare occasions though when my Bayantel DSL is acting so they're forgiven.

So I loitered around my bff Steffi's blog and had fun re-reading her post "Procrastinators, let's unite tomorrow". By that alone, I know I'm gonna snag a starring role and true enough I did. Hahaha... It's not exactly laziness that prompts me to procrastinate, rather the lack of motivation does. Or because I feel like I don't have the need to do some things. Okay, lame excuse! hahaha...

It got me thinking whether proscrastination is equivalent to laziness. There have been a few things that I have actually put off for several years now such as getting a passport. When people ask me why I didn't have a passport yet, I simply say that I don't have plans of working overseas or I don't think I would be able to have the chance to go for an out of the country vacation in the near future. When I decide to do so then that's the time I will be applying for a passport. But part of me knows that I did attempt to get a passport but was turned off by the long line of people waiting to be served.

But then, I'm not exactly lazy. It's just that there are things that I love to put off for another time. Like, going to the gym... wahahah... Okay, I've said too much, will post again tomorrow.

Music Monday #12: Lex Yeux Ouverts

Meg Ryan is one of my favorite actresses. When I was still a student and had more time to watch movies, I have never missed a single Meg Ryan movie. I find her funny and endearing since most of her movies were romantic comedies. My favorite Meg Ryan movie is French Kiss where she teamed up with Kevin Kline. I've probably watched it ten times and each time, it never failed to bring a tear to my eyes, I can be cheesy too. It was one hilarious yet very romantic, we all know Paris to be a city of romance. Up to this time, whenever I remember that movie, it still brings out that giddy feeling, that feeling you feel when you are in love. There's so much "kilig" factor in that movie.

The movie soundtrack is also my all-time favorite, I would definitely recommend it to those who loves romantic love songs. One of my favorite tracks in the movie is the french version of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" which in French is Lex Yeux Ouverts. I luckily found a video on you tube.

Photo Hunt#27: Low

I can't think of anything low that's perfect for this week's theme but low tide. Here's one of my favorite snapshots from our vacation in Bohol almost two years ago. Above is a photo of the beautiful shoreline of Alona Beach in Panglao Bohol. We just arrived here after a wonderful dolphin-watching experience and a visit at the Balicasag Marine Sanctuary. While waiting for our chauffeur to fetch us, we ate ice cream and marveled at the beautiful scenery before us.

I love my Bohol experience because the place is truly blessed with beautiful and breathtaking views. I can say that it's a tourists' haven because they have everything from hills, historical sites to the world's finest beaches not to mention its rich culture. One thing that I remember so well is that the people in Bohol are wonderful. I hope to be able to revisit the place in the future.

Kadayawan Festival 2009

It's August and it's time once again for the most colorful and liveliest festival in the Southern part of the Philippines, the Kadayawan Festival of Davao City. This year will be the 24th celebration of the Kadayawan Festival which will be holding the theme "Nahiusang Katawhan Nakigdagit sa Kalibutan" (One People in Communion with the Earth). The festival is set on August 17-23, 2009.

Among the highlights that I anticipate every Kadayawan Festival is the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan and the Float Parade. This year, I am bent on going out to the streets to witness it and take plenty of photos (God-willing) which I missed last year. The Agri Trade fair is also a personal must-see because every year, me and my sister always have this shopping frenzy for flowering plants.

For tourists, this is actually the best time to visit Davao City because you are surely in for a lot of delightful treats of sights and sounds but more interestingly, it's the best time to experience Davao's bountiful harvests. I smell durian everywhere, its aroma, disgusting it may be for some, never fails to stimulate my appetite for it. My Tribute to Tita Cory

Like all the other Filipinos, I am saddened by the loss of our former President Corazon C. Aquino. She was undoubtedly a gift to the Filipino people. On the contrary, I am happy because I know she will go to heaven and that we will have somebody up there to intercede for us. Being a good citizen that she was when she was still alive, I know that even in heaven she will be looking after our nation.

I was only at the third grade when the Edsa Revolution happened in 1986. I have very vague memories about the historical event then that gave the world a new platform to achieve reform and gain freedom. The only one that stood out which I can remember until now were helicopters dropping yellow confetti from the skies. I asked my dad why there were yellow confetti and he told me that the nation was rejoicing because we have finally regained democracy.

The very profound impact that People Power and President Cory had on me is that I grew up proud to be a Filipino. My generation were the ones who reaped the fruit of People Power. It happened at the time when I was only starting to build an identity based on my understanding of things and everything that happens around me. In school, our teachers always taught us how the world looked up to the Filipinos for being able to overthrow the dictator and re-claimed the democracy through a bloodless revolt called "People Power". This could not have been possible had not one brave Filipina widow responded to the call. Since then, the People Power of the Philippines became an inspiration to all nations across the world that freedom can be achieved without blood, remember the Berlin Wall and the USSR. It all happened while I was growing up. For this, I thank God for giving us the gift of Tita Cory.

The least I can do as a tribute to the greatest Philippine President , Pres. Corazon Aquino is to uphold the Filipino spirit and pride by keeping the values by which she lived alive in me. Honestly, I am hurt whenever I hear a fellow countryman who belittle the Filipinos. I often hear phrases like "Alam mo naman ang mga Pilipino, mahilig gumaya" or "ang mga Pilipino kaya di umaasenso kasi wala nang alam kundi sumunod sa uso". These words cause me to spontaneously refute those statements. Excuse me, but I don't believe in those crap. People who say those things are the ones who manifest colonial influence because they see their fellow Filipinos as Indios. Instead of looking at the negatives, why don't we just try to look at the example of the ordinary housewife who made extraordinary wonders for this country. It is an inspiration to all of us that ordinary individuals like us can achieve so much if we respond to the challenge. Let us take on the example of one great Filipina, by keeping our values of integrity, and faith in God intact.

I will always and forever be proud to be a Filipino.

PhotoHunt #26: Entertainment

These people were unaware that I was taking a photo of them as we just came out from the moviehouse after watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. So what has this shot got to do with this week's theme of Entertainment? Easy! See where we're headed to that time, to the Sony Centre where we checked out the latest gadgets and drool over the Bravia Flat wall TV. Owning a Bravia would definitely be the best form entertainment I could ever have in my entire existence because that would mean ultimate TV watching experience. Hope I'd be able to afford one.
